In case of an accident inside an installation, industrialists apply their Internal Operation Plan (IOP). The latter deals with the means to set up inside an installation in case of an accident. It is the Enterprise manager who assumes the responsibility for the internal operations.
The modified Decree dated from September 21st, 1977 requires from now on to the operator to update and test his IOP at intervals shorter than 3 years.

The Particular Interference Plan, (PIP), established and operated by the Prefect responsible for the area in which the nuclear installation is located, defines the means and organization required to protect people in case of accident, and to provide the industrialist in charge of the damaged installation with the support of external interference means, (firemen, policemen, military policemen, emergency medical assistance service...).

The Internal Emergency Plan (IEP) is established and carried out by the industrialist responsible for a nuclear installation. It aims, on the one hand, at protecting the people who work on the nuclear site in case of an incident or accident and, on the other hand, at limiting to the maximum the consequences outside the nuclear site. It is a document with a practical and operational purpose. The IEP of a nuclear installation has to be subjected to the nuclear security Authority.
